Whenever my out-of-town town friends mock my tolerance for the daily inconveniences and humiliations of NYC life, I can usually chalk it up to their obvious jealousy and feelings of inferiority of living in a lesser city.
But after spending ten minutes in the rain to enter, twenty minutes to check-out, and $130 on barely a week’s worth of food at a store that's only just now come to New York, all I can say is: hey, at least we have a 24 hour subway.

Just you wait, one more Trader Joe's in Manhattan and it'll be just as passe as the 7-11 on 23rd or the Whole Foods around the city.

I hope so, but I suspect NYC will need several more of these speciality food shops before the demand is totally satisfied and the lines go down. We've been supermarket-starved for way too long and I think there's a huge pent-up demand for something better than your local CrapMart. Now, if only we can get more Chinatown-style Deluxe Food Markets out there too...
