Jon Pratt is an amazing composer who has created beautiful music for my last two short films. His coolness also extends into the insect kingdom, where he has a huge grasshopper following.

I read about this guy in the Times' CityRoom blog, then a few hours later he actually showed up while I was waiting for a friend.

True to the Flatiron neighborhood, he had literally more than a dozen photos taken of him (including mine) by passerby in the 10 minutes I waited there. (Most shots were taken with iPhones.)

If this isn't some kind of prank or performance art piece, it's seriously misguided on his part.

My 2004 12" PowerBook 1.33 is one of my favorite Macs ever, but it was finally time to replace it. The 2010 MacBook Pro 13" 2.4 is a worthy successor, even if it's not quite as compact as the PowerBook. I guess if I ever want a Mac as small as the 12", I'll have to buy an iPad.

I took this on March 12, 2010 -- the last weekend of the Game Developers Conference at the Moscone and the first weekend of the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival. That's a lotta hipster nerds in one city -- maybe more than anywhere else in the world that weekend, except for SXSW in Austin also opening that weekend.

You gotta love a place where the salad bar has green jello right next to kim chee. This place is old school in all the best ways, down to normal-sized plates and cups that were common before the era of super-sized everything. I hope this place is here forever.

It was 25F outside, but that didn't stop this cat from having a grand old time on the hood of this parked car. He would lick the hood, then tumble around.

I don't know what he was tasting, but it must have been delicious. I'm just glad his tounge didn't stick to the metal.
